Guidelines
These guidelines outline the standards for data integration and specify the categories of data permitted for use during the event, such as government or scientific open data. Our goal is to ensure a level playing field and maintain the integrity of all projects. If you find that a specific type of data is not explicitly addressed or if the rules seem unclear, please refer to the hackathon staff for an official decision before proceeding.
Allowed
You are fully encouraged to use these sources to build your solution.
- Official Open Data: Datasets explicitly labeled as Open Data by government bodies, NGOs, or international organizations (e.g., ISTAT, World Bank, EU Open Data Portal).
- EnCLOD Partner Datasets: All static and dynamic resources provided directly through this repository are pre-approved for use.
- Public Domain & Open Licenses: Any data or media released under Public Domain, Open Source, or Copyleft licenses (e.g., CC0, CC-BY-SA, ODbL) that permit redistribution and modification.
Discouraged
Not strictly forbidden, but we prefer you avoid these methods.
- "Request-Access" Datasets: Data that is free but requires manual approval or a personalized license key, as waiting periods may create an unfair time advantage.
- Individual/Freemium APIs: Services requiring account registration or those with strict rate limits that could hinder a team’s ability to scale.
- Web Scraping: Extracting data from public websites is discouraged to avoid potential IP bans or service disruptions caused by automated botting behavior during the event.
Forbidden
Using these sources will result in immediate disqualification.
- Commercial & Paid Data: Any dataset or API that requires a financial transaction, subscription, or "pro" tier access to utilize.
- Pre-existing Proprietary Data: Data from your workplace, previous personal projects, or private collections that were not publicly available to all other teams prior to the event.
- Non-Public Data: Information obtained from private databases, restricted community portals, or any source behind a login wall that is not universally accessible.
